Rural Health Camps 2023-24

As part of Maati’s renewed initiatives, we are ushering into developmental activities with developing a comprehensive online portal for Education & Jobs and organizing Free Health Camps in rural areas of Purvanchal. A group of seasoned doctors from top institutions and hospitals like AIIMS, BHU, Medanta, JNMC, LMMC, Apollo, Max etc have graciously consented to join this mission and attend the patients of the camps in person.

Due to harsh weather conditions, poor hygiene and lack of financial resources, majority of the rural population of Purvanchal suffers with bad health. Rather, they are more susceptible to get into serious life threatening diseases. Rural access to the timely, quality and sufficient healthcare is still a dream for many. The inadequate manpower of doctors in both the government and private hospitals is also a concern. Besides low doctors-patients ratio, finding specialized doctors to serve in rural areas is a distant possibility. Furthermore, the infrastructure required in the hospitals, like medicine, furniture and equipment are not adequate to serve the population. On the other hand, villagers do not prefer visiting cities for treatment due to travel hassles and lack of financial support.

The situation gets worse after rainy season and in winters. Every year we notice a sudden surge in infectious diseases, respiratory and strokes. The existing hospitals, dispensaries, public health centers and other medical facilities are not sufficient to cater to the growing needs of the substantial population. With limited choice, villagers tend to get trapped by quacks and finally left with the loss of all personal savings and sometime, precious life as well.

This health scenario demands various private, co-operative and other NGO’s initiatives for public sanitation, preventive healthcare, control of communicable diseases, health education, consultation, treatment, medicine distribution and vaccination etc on a wider scale. To bridge this gap and to improve health index of Purvanchal's districts, a philanthropic and people’s initiative is being executed by Maati in the form of Health Camps.

Objectives & Activities of Health Camps:

  1. Mobilization of public opinion regarding health and hygiene, specially preventive healthcare
  2. Sensitizing people regarding public sanitation
  3. Creating awareness about the control of communicable and infectious diseases
  4. Free of cost Consultation and Check-up by renowned and specialized doctors from Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi and Mumbai etc.
  5. Free Medical Investigations support
  6. Free Treatment/ Treatment guidance
  7. Free Distribution of Medicines & Vaccinations

To launch the initiative, we have organised 5 Medical Camps in Siddharthnagar district under the CSR support from SECI and IOCL in 2023-24. In 2024-25, we plan to organise such Free Rural Health Camps in Mau, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Bahraich and Shrawasti districts of UP.
